As we head into spring, I want to update you on a few things happening around town.
Most of you are probably aware that the local taxi service has decided to discontinue their operation and this loss is having a significant impact on many residents. It is not usual practice for a municipality to be involved in private enterprise, however council and administration are considering options to ensure that we have basic transportation for those who need it. We recognize that the ability to attend medical and financial appointments are critical and walking isn’t always a suitable option. We will keep you posted.
On that note, did you know that the Town of Hanna owns a Handi-van that can be used free of charge for medical appointments (users pay for the cost of fuel and provide their own driver). You are required to provide a letter confirming the appointment. The Handi-van can hold a maximum of four passengers with room for two wheelchairs. For more information contact the town office.
The assessors have completed their annual review of properties in Hanna and assessment notices have been mailed. It is important to review the notice and the information pamphlet. If you have any questions, the Assessors will be in the Town Office for an open house on April 3rd from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, to listen to your concerns and review your assessment with you.
There has been a lot of discussion around the spray park committee’s proposed project. Once the committee has reached their fundraising goals, an open house will be scheduled to present the details of the project and in turn receive feedback from the community. Watch the Town website and ad space in the Hanna Herald for more details.
The Task Force dealing with coal transition has retained Doug Griffiths of 13 Ways to complete a Strategic Plan to guide the region through the transition away from coal. As part of the strategic plan Doug will be speaking at a Town Hall presentation on Embracing Change, preparing for change and indicating what the residents of the Hanna region can do to be best prepared to mitigate these changes. This event will be held in the Hanna Legion on March 28th beginning at 7:30 pm and it will be an informative, interesting perspective on change.
